In recent years I have been introduced for the first time to advanced technology that enables scanning of paintings and printing them on canvas. I was surprised by the high quality of the print, its variability, the distinction in the details, including the texture of the brush strokes and fibers, its quality and its durability over time.

When I place the print near the original, it is difficult to distinguish between the original and the copy

Many printing houses provide scanning and printing services, but when I checked, I found that most of them did not have enough correspondence between the print and original colors. I have found that only a few perform a professional process of individual, step-by-step adjustment of each image, in order to fine-tune the result and bring about an almost complete identification between the print and the original. And only with them I work.

The following is an explanation of the process that goes between the original drawing and the creation of the print.

An initial process is performed for each new drawing before it is printed for the first time, and a follow-up process for reprints.

  1. The original painting is scanned by a sophisticated scanner, which produces a very high-resolution image, which is about 300MB in sise
  2. Printing the painting on a high-quality cotton canvas, using a sophisticated printer with 12 ink cartridges of various colors, or on thick, high-quality fine art paper.
  3. A close comparison between the original painting and the print and examination of differences in color.
  4. Correcting the hues in the file using image processing software (Photoshop) to match the print to the original.
  5. Repeatedly print and test until the desired result has been obtained.
  6. Save the final file on the computer. From now on all the prints came out the same.
  7. When ordering, the selected image is printed to the desired size, on paper or canvas, of choice.
  8. The printed canvas can be stretched on a wooden frame that is already ready to be hung or rolled up.
