Prickly flower
I met this tall and impressive flower as a guard at the entrance gate to the settlement where I live, hovering above the green vegetation surrounding it, and looking out over the settlement of Beit Aryeh in the background. Its botanical name is Barkan, but some call it a “thorn”. I am impressed by its uprightness and its long standing even when it is dry. The soft purple bloom changes during the year to a white flower reminiscent of elegant aging. I tried to give the “thorn” a proper display and restore the respect it deserves in the eyes of the beholder in nature.
